Coaching
frequently asked questions:
What is mental health coaching?
Mental health coaching is similar to counseling, but it is not the same. The primary difference between the two is the approach. Counseling tends to focus more on how a counselee's past is affecting his/her present state, whereas coaching focuses less on the past and more on one's next best steps towards his or her healing and goals. Both approaches have tremendous value, and both counseling and coaching address a counselee's past, present, and future to varying degrees. Many counselees experience progress earlier on in the coaching approach and find this motivating and effective.
What is marriage coaching?
Marriage coaching is similar to marriage counseling, however, it takes on a more directive approach and focuses less on the past and more on a couple's individual and collective best next steps towards healing and strengthening their marriage.
Do you use a biblically-based coaching approach?
Yes! God's Word is the foundation of my life and work. I am a Christ-follower, and I believe the Bible provides practical answers to life's most pressing questions. I also believe that a relationship with Christ brings one healing, purpose, and peace, and I have experienced this in my own life and the lives of others. Though I utilize a biblically-based approach, people from all stages of faith, from non-believer to believer, are welcome in my practice.
Do you consider and utilize psychological research, practices, and modalities in your coaching approach?
Absolutely! I believe the best approach to mental health coaching and marriage coaching is multi-pronged and addresses the mind, body, and spirit. Therefore, I strive to stay informed and trained in the most effective mental health practices and modalities by being part of organizations including the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
Do you accept insurance?
At this time, I do not accept insurance. I accept self-pay via credit card through the client portal, which you create with your first appointment. Mental health coaching and marriage coaching is an investment in yourself, your relationships, and your future, and I take this very seriously. *If you need help paying for your coaching sessions, I encourage you to consider asking your church to help subsidize your coaching sessions. Many churches budget for this and are happy to help. Your church is welcome to email me at info@ashleywillis.net with any questions.
